English term or phrase: unlicensed, unpaid-for music
Cassavetes often used unlicensed, unpaid-for music in his no-budget productions, and apparently did not learn his lesson after Shadows. Husbands, A Woman Under the Influence, and The Killing of a Chinese Bookie all include uncleared music that is present even in the films’ current video incarnations, as Shadows also still does.
