This is some sort of marker or sign, but I cannot find a good word that fits the word used. It seems to be something used in mountains and alpine walks, and this is for a walk from Aosta to Nus in Northern Italy.

In Italy when we go hiking there are foot path in the bush marked with number drawn on rocks or trees with paint. This is what is being mentioned here. I would call it a trail mark. Tacca is the mark
