Music to the ears – and more
Since the invention of the compact disc, the music industry has trumpeted the advantages of digital music. "Analog is history," the refrain went. In recent years, more and more audiophiles are rediscovering vinyl and tape, and the subtleties digital music can never duplicate. To appreciate these differences, higher quality equipment is required to play and broadcast it, and this is most significant in the choice of speakers.
Carbon fiber has found application in the cones of many high-performance speakers, either as a paper or light woven fabric. But Wilson Benesch Ltd. (Sheffield, U.K.) has taken carbon fiber to an entirely new level. Founded in 1989, the company's first products included a carbon-fiber turntable and a torsionally stiff carbon-fiber tone-arm. Building on this technical success, Wilson Benesch introduced the first of its line of speakers in 1994, relying on carbon fiber's structural properties in the external housing of the speaker to provide improved damping and sound quality, giving buyers a purer listening experience. Distinguished by a curved two-piece cabinet featuring high-gloss, woven structural carbon fiber composite, the A.C.T. One (A.C.T. stands for Advanced Composite Technology) struck a note with music purists worldwide and was selected as the reference loudspeaker by a number of audio equipment reviewers. The A.C.T One was followed in 1997 by the slightly larger A.C.T. Two and several other speaker models, all incorporating carbon fiber in the structural cabinet. In 2002, Wilson Benesch developed an all-new speaker, named simply the A.C.T., to replace the One and the Two. The A.C.T. incorporates significant advancements in its construction.
Standing 1080 mm (42.5 inches) tall and weighing 78 kg (172 lb), the A.C.T relies on a lightweight composite and a heavy metallic structure to achieve the proper balance of strength and performance, explains Wilson Benesch director Andrew Scholey. Within the carbon composite housing, a rigid, welded steel backbone and hybrid steel/aluminum baffle rigidly support the speaker cones to minimize vibration. "The stiffness and damping characteristics of carbon fiber composite provide a low degree of 'colorization’, or the vibration typically seen with a wood-based speaker housing," Scholey emphasizes. The result is a cleaner replication of the musical performance.

Kohlenstofffaser wird bereits in Lautsprecherkegeln namhafter Hersteller verwendet, in Form von Papier oder leichtem Gewebe. Die Firma Wilson Benesch Ltd. aus Sheffield, England, hat jedoch eine völlig neue Anwendung für Kohlenstofffaser gefunden. Die 1988 gegründete Firma zählte zu ihren ersten Produkten einen Plattenteller und einen torsionsfreien Tonarm, beide aus Kohlenstofffaser. Auf diesen technischen Erfolg aufbauend führte Wilson Benesch 1994 ihre erste Lautsprecherserie ein. Diese nutzten die strukturellen Eigenschaften von Kohlenstofffaser im Lautsprechergehäuse für bessere Dämpfung und Klangqualität und boten Käufern ein besonders sauberes Hörerlebnis. Der A.C.T. One (Advanced Composite Technology — Hochentwickelte Verbundstofftechnologie) hob sich durch sein geschwungenes, zweiteiliges Gehäuse aus hochglänzendem Kunststofffaserverbund-Strukturgewebe hervor. Er traf bei Musikpuristen weltweit auf offene Ohren und wurde von einigen Audiogeräte-Rezensenten zum Referenzmodell ernannt. 1997 folgten dem A.C.T. One der etwas breitere A.C.T. Two und mehrere andere Lautsprechermodelle, die alle Kohlenstofffaser als Gehäuse-Grundwerkstoff verwendeten. 2002 entwickelte Wilson Benesch einen völlig neuartigen Lautsprecher, einfach nur A.C.T. genannt, der die Modelle One und Two ersetzen soll. Andrew Scholey, der Geschäftsführer von Wilson Benesch, erklärt: „Der A.C.T. ist 1080 cm hoch und wiegt 78 kg. Er erzielt das richtige Gleichgewicht zwischen Robustheit und Leistung durch eine Struktur, die sich aus schweren Metallteilen und leichtem Verbundstoff zusammensetzt.“ Innerhalb des Kohlenstofffasergehäuses sichern ein steifes Gestell aus geschweißtem Stahl und ein Stahl/Aluminium-Dämpfer die Lautsprecherkegel so, dass Vibrationen auf ein Minimum reduziert werden. „Die Steifigkeit und die dämpfenden Eigenschaften der Kohlenstofffaser-Verbundstoffe reduzieren die „Einfärbung“ des Klangs und die Vibrationen, die bei Lautsprechern aus Holz typisch sind“, betont Scholey. Die Musikwiedergabe klingt dadurch sauberer.
My first and most important character attribute is most certainly my work ethic. Influenced by Zen philosophy, I do not see work as something unpleasant that has to be done in order to survive. My favorite language pair is most certainly English/German. I have been using English since I remember, reading English books, writing and speaking English on every possible occasion.
Translating between English and my mother tongue German is a natural choice for me, and something I really enjoy doing.
Living in Portugal for the last ten years, I have good insider knowledge of how the Portuguese language is used in everyday life. I read and speak Portuguese fluently and understand more challenging or technical language without problems. I would be glad to do any translations from Portuguese to German for you!
It should be unnecessary to mention, but my German grammar and orthographic skills are flawless – years of excessive reading, an almost photographic memory for the proper spelling of words and formal training in writing understandably and attractively guarantee great, effortless German.

… traveling to several European Countries during a couple of years, meeting with people of all kinds and trades. During my travels, I was able to gain experience in a multitude of different fields like agriculture, tourism, mechanics and technical fields.
I have always been fascinated with art. In 2003, I started my company Artemosaic for the production of replica of roman mosaic. My activities in this field helped me to gain insights into history, archeology, art history as well as geology, mineralogy and the engineering and technology involved in mining and processing stone.
