I just read your message along with the job posting you quoted. I hope it is a typo. The market rate here in the United States should be around $0.15 per word. If it is not a typo, I do agree with you that it is ridiculous and outrageous!

It may not be a typo. This company is located in Singapore. As I know, Singapore\'s rate is not as high as 15 cents per word. They are trying to solicit translators from China. I have long quitted bidding for translation job on ProZ. Anyway, I turn down many job offers whose rates are several times the average rate here anyway. So I feel it does not have much effect on us translators in North America. Besides, I believe agencies like that probably will not last too long, which means that we do not lose much from not working with them.

I lived in Malaysia, just right next to Singapore. I can assure you that 0.015 is still extremely low, even though our rates here might not be as high as that of Singapore. considering the type of work, this rate is appalling. I sincerely hope it is a typo, otherwise, I wish the outsourcing company good luck.

Actually Chooi is\" 萃\" in Chinese (well, obviously it was not PinYin). It is the mid character of my full name but most friends call me by the name Chooi. I lived in OZ for almost 10 years and believe me, trying to make the locals remember a full Chinese name can take a long time.So I usually introduce myself as Chooi, like in \"Chewy\". they remember that very well.
