French term

nodules para-coliques droits

French to English Medical Medical (general) PET SCAN
Hi,

The sentence is "hypermétabolisme au niveau des trois nodules para-coliques droits à hauteur du flanc droit"

I get a few hits for "paracolic nodules" but they seem to be translations.

Could it be "nodules located in the right paracolic gutter"?

Thanks

Joanna

To be clear, when I said "interior surfaces of the colon" I meant exterior to the colon but along the medial surfaces. Please see image here:

Hi Joanna,

There are also paracolic nodes along the right and left colon. It seems to me that the two "rights" (nodules para-coliques droits and à hauteur du flanc droit) are either redundant or there is something I don't understand :-)
Also, according to the images I've seen, the paracolic lymph nodes are along the interior surfaces of the colon (medial? left and right), while the paracolic gutters appear to be to the outside of the colon (lateral? left and right).
Also, according to the dictionnaire de l'académie française, paracolic gutters is "sillons paracoliques."

Hi everyone, that's why I thought of paracolic gutters as there is a right one and a left one....

Joanna, I'm not sure how to word this to include "right." There are quite a few decent images of the lymphatic system of the colon if you google "paracolic lymph nodes" or "paracolic nodes."

Thanks Rachel! I agree there are very few instances of "right paracolic lymph nodes" or "right paracolic nodes."

paracolic lymph nodes

Lymph nodes of the colon form four groups: the epicolic, paracolic, intermediate, and preterminal colic nodes. Epicolic nodes are minute nodules on the serosal surface of the colon. Paracolic nodes lie along the medial borders of the ascending, and descending colon as well as along the mesenteric borders of the transverse, and sigmoid colon.

Figure 106-1 shows the lymph node groups in the colon. The most proximal lymph nodes to the bowel wall are the epicolic nodes. Paracolic lymph nodes are located along the marginal vessels. Intermediate nodes are found along named vessels and drain to the principal nodes, which are at the origin of the SMA or IMA and drain to the paraaortic lymph nodes.
