German term

Erhebungsbeitrag

German to English Bus/Financial Insurance Insurance terms and conditions
HI, I'm trying to verify the accurate EN translation for this. This involves insurance to cover medical device trial subjects. Not sure if Erhebung here refers to research or collection, may "initial premium"?

It appears as follows:

Der Erhebungsbeitrag wird wie folgt berechnet:
Bei XX Probanden/Patienten in Deutschland:
X XXX EUR
zuzüglich 19 % Versicherungsteuer.
Beitragsregulierung
Nach Abschluss der klinischen Studie meldet der Versicherungsnehmer dem Versicherer zur endgültigen Abrechnung die Anzahl der Probanden, die tatsächlich an der Studie teilgenommen haben.

Thanks for your help!

Discussion

Björn Vrooman Oct 17, 2023:
It continues:
"Zu jeder dieser klinischen Prüfungen hat er den Titel, das Datum des tatsächlichen Beginns, das voraussichtliche bzw. tatsächliche Datum der Beendigung sowie die jeweilige Anzahl der versicherten Personen anzugeben."

In the given context, it doesn't sound like a "Jahresvertrag" here, but that's not really an issue, since the principle is the same. A "Probandenversicherung" might be called one of the following in English:

https://www2.proz.com/kudoz/german-to-english/medical/338133...

Maybe that helps. Like other insurance plans offered in Germany, this one requires you to give an estimate (of the number of volunteers in the trial etc.) and you'll get the final "bill" later.

Sounds... ...like a Probandenversicherung:
"Hersteller, die eine klinische Prüfung ihrer Medizinprodukte durchführen, benötigen eine Probandenversicherung. Dazu verpflichten sie u.a. die MDR und IVDR."
https://www.johner-institut.de/blog/regulatory-affairs/versi...

(MDR = Medical Device Regulation / IVDR = In Vitro Diagnostic Regulation)

Here's the German insurance industry's...
"Allgemeine Versicherungsbedingungen für versicherungspflichtige klinische Prüfungen von Arzneimitteln/Jahresvertrag (AVB-Prob/AMG-JV)"
https://www.gdv.de/resource/blob/6134/76858fc83c0d432a298a52...

It doesn't include "Erhebungsbeitrag," which is a normal German compound anyway (without a special meaning; it's just "Beitrag, der zu erheben ist" or "festzusetzen" or "zu berechnen ist") but "Beitragszahlung" and "Beitragsregulierung":
"Der Versicherungsnehmer ist verpflichtet, dem Versicherer innerhalb von drei Monaten nach Aufforderung zu melden, welche klinischen Prüfungen in dem abgelaufenen Versicherungsjahr begonnen wurden."

It sounds like a provisional premium.

(provisional) premium

I think they may mean -betrag rather than -beitrag.

As Björn points out, Erhebungs- simply means 'charged', so this is the premium. You could say 'provisional', as it's later adjusted to reflect the actual number of trial subjects.

agree Björn Vrooman : I was waiting for you to turn your d-box entry into an answer. For more context, see the discussion. In a health insurance context, Beitrag is definitely OK as is, though: https://www.bundesgesundheitsministerium.de/beitraege

disagree Adrian MM. : 'I had been waiting for you' to dodge the Erhebungs- prefix by bracketing an inconclusive 'provisional'.

clinical-survey insurance premium

Confusing as it is, it's a Erhebungsbeitrag rather than Beitragserhebung, to wit: levying of a premium or fitting contribution to a medical trial that may work out well or go drastically wrong.

Otherwise, premium looks a good alternative to contribution in the context.
Example sentence:

IATE: de Erhebung COM Umfrage CdT Untersuchung COM Überblick CdT Prüfung CdT Überwachung CdT en survey COM *statistical survey* COM

With Clinical Surveys, you can collect information from a client before or after their scheduled appointment, or at the time of booking online

Peer comment(s):

disagree Björn Vrooman : Sorry, Adrian, but this really has nothing to do with https://jane.app/guide/clinical-surveys Erhebungsbetrag = Beitrag, der erhoben wird.//I posted the link in response to your inclusion of "clinical survey," which has little to do with asker's context.

'Sorry', Björn, but your weblink proves nothing.
neutral philgoddard : You're also confusing surveys and trials.

That had been the asker's precise question and the context is not entirely unequivocal.
