Discussion

Pavel Blann Jun 20, 2006:
Thank you for your support, Dylan.
Dylan Edwards Jun 19, 2006:
Although on first impression the term hřebínkový suggests "crest" or "ridge" (as suggested by Lingua Chick), I think Pavel's answer is nearer the mark, because of the evidence of the dictionary plus the picture.
Dylan Edwards Jun 19, 2006:
The picture shows a building with five parallel wings: http://reality.ihned.cz/1-10002095-16868620-K00000_detail-50
Dylan Edwards Jun 16, 2006:
The parallel wings of the building are like fingers or ribs.
Dylan Edwards Jun 16, 2006:
hřebínkový půdorys - finger plan
hřebínkový (způsob zastavění) - rib-like

agree Dylan Edwards : Something on these lines! "finger" system - I'd use inverted commas because it isn't such a familiar term. It's a "finger plan" type of layout.

ridge roof system

I am not a qualified architect or builder, but judging by the source text it sounds like a rather fancy design of interconnecting ridge roofs. I would, therefore, translate it as a "ridge roof system" which is close to the original and also describes the idea of "hrebinkovy system". Other than that, it's difficult to judge without a picture.
