Hello everyone. Can anyone please tell me what "strip tilling" is? I mean, all tilling is done in strips (I know of no tilling method that doesn't do so in strips), so why would strip tilling be called "strip" tilling? Thanks.

Narrow strips are tilled only where the crop is to be sown and the rest of the field is left untilled. This is radically different from conventional tilling, where the whole field is tilled.

: 8-10 inches is tilled, out of a strip of land that may be up to a yard wide (I'm guessing here)

narrow strip conservative tillage
Strip tillage is a relatively new form of conservation tillage. Strip till preserves all of the crop residue left from the previous year's harvest. Only a narrow strip of this residue is removed in which the seed is planted. Mounds are created in this narrow strip during fertilizer application in the fall, creating a warmer, drier seedbed.
