Discussion

The irony of it of course is that vanilla pods have no flavour whatsoever - everything comes from the seeds in the pods (which are also called beans in English).
Sheila Wilson Dec 2, 2015:
Aha! So it has vanilla seeds in it - and they come from vanilla pods. It's not often that the word 'seeds' is used but the term is now sure to mean vanilla pods

E401, E339(ii), E466; flavourings, vanilla seeds, colour: annatto

Tony M Dec 2, 2015:
@ Asker Does it specify anywhere that this is vanilla ice-cream? If not, I half suspect this may not have been written by a native speaker of English...

As 'vanilla essence / flavouring' is not mentioned in the ingredients, it is possible that the flavour comes only from the vanilla pods — assuming, of course, that at some point we have been told it is indeed vanilla ice-cream!
Sheila Wilson Dec 2, 2015:
But is that the full list of ingredients? Surely there are some more, aren't there?
Muhammad Said (asker) Dec 2, 2015:
short context provided Hi Ms. Sheila,

Actually, the context is very short. I do not even know whether it is provided to kids or if it talks about containers. The title only is provided, followed by ingredients.
Sheila Wilson Dec 2, 2015:
More context? You undoubtedly have some other words before after that will shed more light on these "pods". What type of document are you translating? Is the ice cream part of a dessert, or specifically for kids, or just on its own? Is there talk of containers? What flavourings are used? The key could be anywhere.

Thank you.

Thank you so much. I think it is close to my guess.

agree James A. Walsh : Can't think of any other type of "pods" that might be used in ice cream. Hope all is well, Taña ;)

Thanks James. All is well.
neutral Sheila Wilson : It's likely if course but nothing to guarantee it. Pea pod flavour ice cream for anyone?

Perhaps, but I think the text is more general in nature.
agree Tony M : Very likely, vanilla ice-cream here in France often has bits of ground-up vanilla pods in it; if you read the ingredients carefully, they do say 'SPËNT vanilla pods' — i.e. purely for show!
