English term

coupling blades

English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering fans
These are accessories of a plate mounted fan (air ventilation product).

Actually, I have an English text translated from Italian.

correct form: IMHO:
coupling for the blades

Non-ProZ.com Aug 1, 2005:
Let's think! FAN DIAMETER 450mm (DIAMETER OF ROTATION HUB 200mm)
NUMBER OF ROTATION BLADES 6
So, we have 6 ROTATING blades.
...
FORM OF ROTATION "B" (flusso aria girante -> motor) :-)
...
3.1 ACCESSORIES
COUPLING BLADES
Diam. = 450 mm QUANTITY No 2

Here, we have the same diameter as for rotating blades, but only two items.

I will try to attach a picture of the fan, albeit what I have here, only has 5 blades.

This gets more and more complicated :-)
Non-ProZ.com Aug 1, 2005:
Yes, of course FITTING VERTICAL
FAN DIAMETER 450mm
DIAMETER OF ROTATION HUB 200mm
AIR SUPPLY 6750 m3/hour (CADAUNO)
SNAGGING STANDARD
NUMBER OF ROTATION BLADES 6
BLADES ANGLE 20
SPEED OF ROTATION 2840 revolutions/minute (2 pole)
FORM OF ROTATION "B" (flusso aria girante -> motor)
POWER USAGE 1.53 KW
TYPE OF MOTOR Chiuso VOODS CT9 IP 55 -da 1.7KW
FEEDING 400 V / 50 Hz /3ph
ISOLATION CLASS F
MAXIMUM OPERATING TEMPERATURE 200C for two hours

3.1 ACCESSORIES
COUPLING BLADES
Diam. = 450 mm QUANTITY No 2

There is nothing in the document you have shown me that suggests its source was Italian. Unless the second document is quite different. Can you post the paragraph in which the expression appears?
Non-ProZ.com Aug 1, 2005:
Yes You are right, the expression in question is in another similar document, but I wasn't able to locate on the web.
Anyway, te context is the same. Maybe, the document where coupling blades occurs is a wrong Italian solution.?
Derek Smith Aug 1, 2005:
Hi again. On the contrary, the document doesn't look like a translation at all and seems to be very clear technical English. But I can't find any reference to "coupling blades".
Derek Smith Aug 1, 2005:
Hi, sounds like a dubious translation. Accessories? Do you have the Italian? Can you give some more context in the English text? Thanks

coupling, (for the) blades

Well, as you posted the context, it is easy.

It has a diameter, so it is circular. Blades are not circular.
This is simply the coupling for the blades.

Here is a picture showing a cover accessory you can put on it.

...and all the bits and pieces, plus how to put them together. This is a ceiling fan, but that wouldn\'t make any difference.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "If we take into accoun that this originally was an Italian text, the solution is to simply switch the two words ==> blade couplings. Many thanks to all of you, especially to Derek Smith, for his effort."

dual bladed fan

maybe coupling stands for dual bladed fan. View the picture here:

But as you're talking about plate mounted fans, I'd suggest something else. Maybe it's the type of fans where there are two sets of fans in one. View the picture (20V Electric Fan. JPG) here:

coupled (twist-coupled) blades

Hi Péter
I have had a quick check for possible Italian deviations of the "possible" source. Translating back, this one looks hopeful, but I am totally shooting from the hip I'm afraid.
Cheers
Derek
