This term appears in a safety management system's manual (for an offshore rig), in the following sentence:
"The near miss report form should be forwarded to the Safety Department at the end of each week, of the Rig Superintendent’s hitch."
I would like to know exactly what "of the Rig Superintendent’s hitch" means in this context. Thanks in advance.

In the military, a hitch is a term of service, i.e. the period of time a soldier signs up for. In this case, the rig superintendent is on the rig for a specified period of time. There should be no comma between week and of. I once worked on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico and my rotation was for two weeks.
Most offshore oil rig jobs call for a 14/21 day rotation that means you work for 14 days and have 21 off. This equates to you having approximately 3/5 of the year off on holiday.
