français term

démedicalisation

français vers anglais Sciences Agriculture Animal husbandry
I am unsure of the meaning of this term. According to all the research I've carried out on the Internet, the meaning still appears unsure. The document I am translating relates to animal husbandry. The actual context is "ou la démedicalisation en production hors-sol telle celle engagée en production porcine".

I believe they are talking about reducing the amount of drugs given to animals which are caged rather than free-range. The term "demedicalisation" seems to fit this but should I use this term or explain it as "reduction in the use of drugs"?
Help, as usual, appreciated.

Antibiotics or homones ? The two basic treatments are 'antibiotics' (medicine) and growth hormones (drugs)

I'd use demedicalisation only if the article is talking about the first case but 'reduce drugs' if it is talking about the second case.

As drugs are a synonym for medicine, I'd still use drugs if they are talking about both cases

Hope you see what I'm trying to get at.

demedicalisation Thanks Wendy. It appears that the links you provided support my theory that "demedicalisation" involves replacing drugs in feed by good nutrition.

Although the latter is probably influenced by the French
Note from asker:
Many thanks for your input, Wendy and Safetext. The client did not accept the word "demedicalisation" and preferred "reduction in hormone enhanced growth"
