French term

étrier

French to English Tech/Engineering Games / Video Games / Gaming / Casino levier de control de vitesse
Hi there,

"Enfin, le boitier support comprend avantageusement des moyens de fixation, par exemple de type étrier ou serre-joint, dudit boitier support à un meuble, tel qu'une table ou d'un bureau."

My translation :

Finally, the support casing advantageously comprises fixing means, for example of étrier or C-clamp type, of said support casing to a piece of furniture such as a table or a desk

Could it be a "U-bolt"? there are many alternatives on GDT...

Please help
Thank you

Discussion

jmleger May 26, 2011:
I first understood... that we were talking about a linkage system, which prompted me to suggest "yoke", which is what an étrier is in such a case. Apparently, however, we are talking in fact about a fastening/clamping system or device. Have I got it right this time?
Louisa Tchaicha (asker) May 26, 2011:
@answerers my fields are wrong...again, I apologize for that, yes it is specific for a video game simulator (at first I thought it was for a car AND video games...which doesn't really make sense) ("La présente invention concerne un contrôleur de vitesses, notamment pour jeu vidéo") i was translating "notamment" as "particularly"...
Tony M May 25, 2011:
I see, Alex! It wasn't the context that was confusing me, but I hadn't made the connection 'moyens de fixation ... dudit boîtier support ...'
Bourth (X) May 25, 2011:
No, Tony, it makes perfect sense ... ... when you realize we're talking about a gear lever not for a motor vehicle but for a computer racing simulator, I think.

G-clamp

I think we've been mizzled by "Mechanics / Mech Engineering / levier de control de vitesse".

The only case I can see a gear change being fitted to a desk or table is if it's for a computer game, which is not quite what I see as "mechanics".

Sorry, I think yoke is not right. For some reason I thopught it had to do with a speed control lever, which it obviously does not from the text I read. U-bolt seems more appropriate in this context.

brace / yoke / bracket

boitier support comprend avantageusement des moyens de fixation, par exemple de type étrier
so it is a case which is being attached. Without a picture hopeless to know what this étrier looks like.
Above some names I have found in English, translated as étrier into French.
Then more general - mount / support
