French term

arbitrage automatique

French to English Bus/Financial Insurance Insurance
The context is insurance. My problem is the various uses of "arbitrer", clearly arbitration will not work in this context. I think it means deciding on who to insure, but the document is short and there is not much to go on.
Please read the paragraph before answering:

· Risques: l’arbitrage automatique doit être accru. On peut faire observer que :
- Pour la succursale, il s’agit exclusivement d’export donc l’arbitrage local utilise des dossiers déjà cotés par CLD ou d’autres entités
- La succursale a de gros clients avec de grosses limites pas toujours arbitrées par l’XXXXXXXX

automatic underwriting

Strikes me it is probably talking about a module which will attempt to automatically determine whether the credit risk can be underwritten or not. Such a module, in my experience, will either just OK the limit, refuse the limit, or recommend acceptance of risk on an amount lower than the amount request. These options may be combined with the system referring its "decision" to a human underwriter for confirmation. However, judging from the "accru", the company seems to be seeking to improve the rate of automatic responses, which can only be achieved by improving the information available to the automatic underwriting module.
"Arbitrage local" will then be the local (risk) underwriting department. You may wish to include the word risk to differentiate risk and commercial underwriting.

disagree Charlie Bavington : in insurance, arbitration usually refers to the resolution of disputes, and I'm sure that this is NOT the context here. Altho' I could be mistaken, of course... :-)

I think it's probably arbitration between companies, not between customers and company, but I can be wrong too ;-)

automatic credit insurance risk management

I believe that what you have here is what the French call "arbitrage du risque," which are the procedures by which insurance companies decide what amount of trade credit insurance they are willing to extend.
