French term
carnet (livret) d'achats
French to English
Bus/Financial
Retail
What is this exactly? I've seen a picture of it on the Internet (see http://tinyurl.com/3dyvnz) but I'm not really sure what it is. It looks like a bank passbook or the redemption stamp booklets that some US readers may recall (dates me doesn't it?).

~ purchase list (see below)
In a big department store, this is a list where you can enter item numbers for your purchases so as to avoid dragging them in your cart/basket during your entire shopping trip throughout the store, and have them prepared for you at the checkout instead.
Today, when it is computerized, you can call it a "virtual shopping cart".
An example of store using this service is Le Printemps in Paris.

(or, of course, instead of getting the purchases at the checkout, you can have them delivered to you).

You can also keep shopping over several days without actually taking the goods, then have everything consolidated and pay for everything at once, etc.

Comment: "Thank you! I'm sorry it took me so long to grade this! I never did find a tidy, unambiguous way to refer to this in English, but your explanation was certainly helpful to me in understanding what this is and how it works."
