This is in a press release for a line of clothes. This is a sentence in a whole section elaborating on the checkered print that is found throughout the line this season:
Au sein de la silhouette, ils sont parfois tempérés par des gris, marine, blanc et beige tout aussi adaptés au temps des vacances.
My half-hearted try:
(Within the silhouette), they are sometimes tempered by grey, navy, white and beige –all equally suited for the holidays.
"They" means the checks, but I'm just not sure what part the silhouette or part on the piece of clothes is meant here.
Thanks, Mary

essential to the silhouette
What is at the heart of something is its core essence. That central spark, that which is critical to its being, is essential to it.
Military Jackets – What’s more commanding than a woman in uniform? Military-inspired jackets in leather and wool will undoubtedly be a must-have this season. Clean lines are **essential to the silhouette** of these jackets, which have an old-fashioned feel this season with their big buttons, wide lapels, and knee-length hemlines. Pair the jacket with lace-up leather boots and aviator glasses for an unforgettable look.

Many of the fabrics and colors from this collection are derivative of textures found in nature, and more specifically animals. Shades of kelp, moss, mint, eggplant and marine met with reptile prints, fur, leather, and dense layers of organza to create a sense of sleek camouflage. This season, more than ever, the draping was kept to what is most **essential to the silhouette** in order to really emphasize the relationship of the body to the lines of the collection.
The dress also had a low back, a detail of the dress that was essential to the silhouette. Rather than taking it in at the sides (where it had seems and could easily be altered

THERE is good news in the Spring styles for the woman who has youth, beauty and carriage, but not that degree of slenderness **essential to the silhouette** frock that has made a complicated problem for her in the matter of dress for several years

within (at the heart of) the outfit
silhouette is often used by textile companies to refer to coordinated pieces of clothing that they present together as a proposed 'silhouette' so you could translate as outfit, ensemble, coordinates.....depending on the style/context

essential to the look
I think "look" makes more sense than "silhouette" in English.

: I'm glad that you agree with my reasoning that, in this case, 'essential to' works for "au sein de." And I agree with you that 'look' could be substituted for "silhouette" in this case. :-)
