German term
Restholz
German to English
Tech/Engineering
Energy / Power Generation
Biofuel power plant
From a job concerning a biofuels power plant, the term Restholz (as opposed to Altholz) comes up. Ernst gives the latter but not the former. Can I take it to mean this is wood from coppiced supplies, or rather is it used, or recycled, (whatever that means!)?
TIA
"Kesselanlage
Hochdruck/Dampf: 47 bar/430 °C
Erzeugungsleistung: ca. 21,5 t/h
Brennstoff (Alt- und Restholz): ca. 40.000 t/a"

Selected
residual and waste wood
... as another choice. Very common description in the context of biomass heating plant fuel.
Note from asker:
Thanks Bernd. If it's a term in widespread industry use, I'm liking it. |

: Your suggestions do indeed google very nicely in conjunction with biomass. What would your sugestion be to distinguish "Altholz"?

Thank you, Colin. Maybe "used wood".

scrap wood / off-cuts
i.e. bits left over / surplus, rather than old/used.

A possible alternative to "scrap wood" would be "wood scrap". This might better accommodate the possibility of sawdust.

Discussion
"Altholz" would certainly be in pieces, rather than powder.
"Restholz fällt als Nebenprodukt bei der Holzverarbeitung an - z.B. macht man Holzpellets [...] aus Sägemehl".
Ob das Colin's Vorschlag unterstützt oder wiederlegt, steht zur Diskussion. Danach kann Restholz aber ebenso Sägemehl wie Holz"stücke" sein. Also Vorsicht bei der Wortwahl.
