German term

durchsintern

German to English Tech/Engineering Materials (Plastics, Ceramics, etc.) Dental Ceramics; CAD/CAM Processes
"Fräsung ***durchgesinterter***, „gehipter“ Keramik (HIP – Keramik = hot isostatically pressed)

From a text about CAD/CAM processes. I can't find anything for "durchsintern". Does it mean to sinter through or something like "thoroughly sinter"? TIA for any light you can shed on it.

completely sintered

If you have a thick part, the sintering process will start from the outside and move inwards. Durchsintern means that the sintering process was not stopped before the entire part had been sintered.
Peer comment(s):

agree Ken Cox : or 'fully sintered' (as opposed to partially...)

agree Gareth McMillan : What's wrong with "sintered through"? Sounds perfectly EN to me.

Some notes

Understanding the process often obviates any problems with translating the words.

One process of forming parts of powdered material parts is by compressing the powdered material, metals, or ceramics, in a die and then sintering the piece thus formed. The powder is molded to the required shape, normally at room temperature, by the application of high-tonnage compacting pressure. No binder or adhesive material is used in this operation. Then, the piece is heat-treated by the process known as sintering to induce optimal strength.

Sintering occurs in a controlled-atmosphere furnace where the green piece (piece straight from compaction) is heated to a temperature close to but not at melting. This is done so that particles may bond by solid state bonding, but not melt.

But if the above doesn\'t help, then I suggest \"sintered through\".
