German term

Speicherwagen

German to English Tech/Engineering Paper / Paper Manufacturing Splicer
This comes from a troubleshooting report for a corrugator line. Here's the context:

Da es Probleme mit der Kupplung des **Speicherwagens** am Mediumsplicer gab, musste ich diese auseinandernehmen und reinigen.

I haven't been able to find an English equivalent for Speicherwagen. I found a good descrption of it in a German Wikipedia entry (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wellpappanlage) so I understand the concept, but I just don't know what to call it in English.

4-Roll Accumulator

The accumulator station regulates the continuously extruded strip on four overhung-mounted and individually driven diverter rolls during the operating sequence at the apex applicator.

The Automatic film splicer stops the expiring roll of film at the preset splice diameter, the bagger is then fed from the integrated accumulator while the expired web is joined to the prepared leading edge of the new roll. Next, the new roll is brought up to speed and the accumulator is refilled, eliminating any stops in the production process for roll changes.

The splicer has been designed to permit a change in roll stock width or grade without having to slow down to idle running speeds. During normal operation of the splicer, the paper unwinding from a roll stand passes up and through the splicer and into the single facer or glue machine. The paper passes through a splicer head and idler rolls, and around either a set of dancer rolls or through a driven carriage assembly. The dancer rolls (stationary type splicer) and the driven carriage assembly (driven type splicer) provide the method by which the paper from the newly spliced-in roll is permitted to run and accelerate up to the corrugator's running speed without having to stop or slow down the corrugator.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you Berhard and Chetan! Unfortunately, my translation had a quick turnaround, and so I had to return it before finding out that 'accumulator' is the correct term for 'Speicherwagen' in this context. But, this is very good to know for the next time. Thanks again for your help."

For information only

I came across this bilingual web reference, where 'Speicherwagen' is translated as '(cloth) scray carriage' in the context of textiles. I wonder if that helps you move ahead ?
