Hi,

This query from a Swiss logistics contract translation into EN-UK should not be all that hard to answer, only that I can hardly find any context that is actually relevant to the query.

So what I have done is, I have put # around those sections that I think might constitute relevant context (it's called semi-informed guesswork). You can find the actual micro-context between asterisks.

Hello Darin It only says that delivery is going forward as requested. The entire paragraph is about when to deliver the order. What you said: "I suppose one could confirm the delivery in accordance with the order confirmation..."

I said if it's not that, it could be Auftragsbestellung because, as seen in the paragraph, confirmation may be implied (following a two-day window): "Ansonsten gelten diese als angenommen." That would mean there never was confirmation of the order and the only thing you have is the purchase order.

Yes, otherwise, Sebastian needs to ask, though I bet the solution can be found somewhere in the surrounding paragraphs.

The key sentence, however, does not imply acceptance of the order. It implies confirmation of delivery. Now, to me, confirmation of delivery means confirmation that the delivery has in fact occurred. It could, however, also mean confirmation that the delivery will occur as agreed. The latter would be an "Auftragsbestätigung", but the former would be an "Anlieferungsbestätigung". I suppose one could confirm the delivery in accordance with the order confirmation, in which case "Auftragsbestätigung" would be correct.

I don't quite understand why Sebastian is asking what else it could mean. First full sentence: "Innerhalb von 2 Arbeitstagen nach Eingang bei Ihnen, müssen alle Bestellungen schriftlich bestätigt werden."

If you need to confirm in writing that you accept the order, it's...to confirm it. Prior to this AB, it was just a request (unless the two workdays were up); now, there are two parties to the contract.

It is definitely not Auslieferungsbestätigung. The only other thing I could think of will knock you both off your feet because of its inherent redundancy: Auftragsbestellung.

Could be because confirmation is implied (or deemed given) after two days. What it is exactly, however, should be clear from the full context, I think.

That “gemäß” though Makes me think the B might be “-bedingungen”. Maybe “Auslieferung sbedingungen”. I find “bestätigt gemäß Bestätigung” a bit odd. Then again Germans are notoriously redundant in their phrasing. Swiss too, I suppose.

Sebastian: I'm not all that familiar with Swiss wording of agreements of this type, but wonder if "AB" could stand for "Allgemeine Bedingungen"? In other words, GTCs.

I suspect the Swiss terminology actually means "We confirm we will deliver in accordance with the GTCs"

No votes whatsoever for Auslieferungsbestätigung? I mean when I, as a translator, issue an order confirmation prior to commencing order processing, how can I confirm delivery at that point (cf. micro-context)? I mean the goods have not even been prepared for delivery yet at that point, let alone despatched. Anyway, all PRO level answers submitted, which are relevant to the question, like the one currently sitting there, will be considered for points. (That said, I agree that basically either interpretation is conceivable).
