I need to render this but not literally.
Basically it's describing a man who speaks before he thinks.
I'm looking for a metaphoric but simple idiom.

put one's foot in one's mouth and put one's foot in it; stick one's foot in one's mouth
Fig. to say something that you regret; to say something stupid, insulting, or hurtful. When I told Ann that her hair was more beautiful than I had ever seen it, I really put my foot in my mouth. It was a wig. I put my foot in it by telling John's secret; he found out.

: ובכן זה אכן ביטוי נהדר של אדם שמתחרט על דבריו אבל זו לא המשמעות של יורה ובוכה, נראה לי שיש פער בין הביטוי שצוין לבין המשמעות שנרשמה בתיאור המילולי על ידי השואלת. בכל מקרה, אם להתייחס למשמעות, זה אכן הביטוי. אבל זה לא התרגום ליורה ובוכה

Maybe sticking closer to the literal meaning: shoots his mouth off and lives to regret it
