Bio
My name is Kim, I am 29 years old and I live in the UK, where I moved from the Netherlands last year. Translating has always been a hobby of mine, but after graduating high school I went on to study Journalism. In my second year I realised this wasn't what I wanted, and I switched to English Language and Culture, from which I graduated in the summer of 2011. In September 2011 I started my Master's Degree in Theory and Practice of Translation, with a focus on literature, from which I graduated in the summer of 2012.
I started as a freelancer in July 2012 and since then I have screened translations and done many other jobs relating to it (checking revisions, transcriptions, etc) for companies under the Dutch WCS Group. I have also done many translations and revisions for the Czech company idioma.
I used to translate regularly for two websites: JaME (Japanese Music Entertainment) and Todio; I have by now quit these due to time constraints. On JaME I translate news items, interview, live reports and biographies from English into Dutch. These all focus on Japanese music, which is an interest of mine. I translated for this organisation for approximately three years and some examples of these pieces can be found in my profile.
On Todio I translated all kinds of texts from Dutch into English, though mostly texts about art, culture, history, tourism and illnesses, and I have also translated several texts on serial killers. My portfolio can be found here and consists of 140 translations. I've also written a few texts in Dutch, most of them reviews. These can be accessed here. Other than that, I also proof-read English translations before they go online.
I am always eager to learn more and to delve into new topics if needed. I read plenty and have been teaching myself English since I was five years old, although I am a Native Dutch speaker. If there are any questions, feel free to contact me.
