Hello,

I want to format the hard drive on my PC and I was wondering what is going to happen to the Trados license after I reinstall it in my PC. Will I have to buy a new license or is it going to work with the old one?

Hello Nikolaos,

which version are you running? 2006 with a *lic file? 2007 with an activation code?

If you own 2006, save your *lic file on a CD/external drive/USB pen and re-use it when done.

If you have 2007, simply return your license before re-formatting.

I just bought SDL Trados Studio 2009, which includes SDL Trados 2007 Suite. I had only installed SDL Trados 2007 but I had some problems with my PC and now I need to format the hard drive. If I uninstall the program will the license be automatically returned?

hello again,

open the license manager and return all the licenses listed there (marked as "permanent"). They are not returned automatically, so if you de-install the program (both 2007 & 2009) without returning the licenses, they'll be shown as in use (in your SDL account) and therefore no longer available to you.

Once you hve re-installed 2007 & 2009, activate your licenses online using your activation codes (listed in your SDL account under "My licenses")
