I don't have one, but I'm fairly ambivalent about getting one and if I did, like David, it would be of limited use for work purposes. I've just bought the children two (cheap!) tablets for Christmas and think they are a lot of fun, and useful for e-mail and web browsing, but not for translation itself. Unless Trados brings out an Android app! [idea]

....but I'll only use it for emails, facebook, minor web browsing when I'm away from home and away from my laptop. I wouldn't use it for actually working per se (unless checking emails is considered work).

iPad, and only for short trips and e-mails. The only role it plays in translation is when I need a second screen. Long autonomy (much longer than laptops) is an advantage, and even then you have to work in a cloud.

I use a tablet PC, a second one actually. This is just a toy: some web surfing, e-mails and Angry Birds. But even a weakest netbook is much better if you need mobility in work.

And I haven't been a good boy this year. So, Santa will definitely not be bringing me one! 
I'm sure they're very fun and handy for playing around on, looking around sites and checking e-mail and all that kind of stuff. I'm sure they're very fun and handy for playing around on, looking around sites and checking e-mail and all that kind of stuff. I prefer to work in front of a safe, solid and secure system on my desk, and, besides, tablet keyboards are far too small to do anything practical work-wise, let alone industrial strength typing.
Sorry, but toy PCs aren't butch enough for the big boys as far as work is concerned. ▲ Collapse

I have the "usual" Ipad, but it is only a "toy" for the children - and they can use it better than me (2 + 5) - and I am sure that I will never use it for work. They are just too small and, in my opinion, not practical for my purrposes.
I need my 17" laptop when I am travelling, and the batter lasts just as long

God has blessed me with large, strong hands.
This is one reason I do not like sending SMS on my cellphone. I am also, arguably, the world's worst touchpad user. A combination of these factors, plus the relative frivolity of a tablet make me disinclined to place this device anywhere near the top of my wish list.
Like Julian, I do not think my overall behaviour this year merits such a Christmas gift.

Honestly, this does not provide me with any additional motivation to ensure preparedness. If the happy event does occur, I am likely to ask the mother to consider a gift of an Android tablet instead - which will please her, since I understand that they are cheaper. Allison, you have competition! I can't imagine using a touch screen for any work application, even just for viewing a screen as an additional monitor.

Not necessarily. It obviously depends on the market, but here Huawei MediaPad 10 on Android is priced almost equally to iBad. However, the price is not the only thing you should consider when choosing a gift tablet. In particular, Apple plans to make iBads obsolete (i. e. to cease support) in mere two years [1]. There are also other reasons not to buy from Apple [2].

The size issue, quite apart from updating questions and cloud issues, means that I am not interested in getting a tablet for professional use. And I'm another member of the terrible touchpad user band (my next phone will have buttons, I swear).
If I had the extra dosh (ha ha) I'd be interested in getting one for non-professional use because of the great autonomy. I spend a lot of time on trains, in waiting rooms and the like.

...but I'm not the main user. I am, however, really tempted by the new Microsoft Surface with Windows. That looks like something one could actually work on when in a pinch.
