Hi All,

I am a new user of Across. Sometimes I need to split phrases into smaller segments. I have tried to re-segment highlighting the intended new segment, but after I do that, the remaining part of the original translation unit gets grayed out and I cannot work on it anymore.

Example:

Let's say that Across has automatically treated the following sentences as a single translation unit (i.e. from "Shall" to "date"):

Example:

Let's say that Across has automatically treated the following sentences as a single translation unit (i.e. from "Shall" to "date"):

"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date."

Now, I create a new segment by highlighting the text from "Shall" to "day" and clicking on "Create a new segment from highlighted text".

After I do that, the rest of the original TU (i.e. from "Thou" to "date") gets automatically grayed out and cannot be handled anymore.

Am I doing something wrong with manual segmentation or is this a feature/limit of Across?

Thanks in advance,

Stefano

After translating the first segment you can handle the second one. Dec 17, 2010

Hi Stefano,
do you mean that you cannot handle the second segment even though the first one is translated and having also entered a space after the full stop?

Regards
Liselotte

Thanks for you reply.

I guess the question might be boiled down to the following:

What is the correct sequence of commands for splitting a translation unit created by Across into two separate segments?

As to the original question: no, there is no need to add a space character in my case, because there is already a space after the period character. The problem is that the part of paragraph after the period (and the pre-existing space) gets grayed out after a

As to the original question: no, there is no need to add a space character in my case, because there is already a space after the period character. The problem is that the part of paragraph after the period (and the pre-existing space) gets grayed out after attempting re-segmentation.

2nd example:

Given a segment automatically created by Across, such as: "Tttttt uuuuu vvvv. Wwwww xxxxx yyyy." (please note the period "." character and the space " " character after the word "vvvv"), if I try to create two segments: 1: "Tttttt uuuuu vvvv." and 2: "Wwwww xxxxx yyyy.", then segment no. 2 is grayed out by Across and cannot be handled as a separate segment.

Thanks.

Regards,

Stefano

The space behind the full stop after the translated 1st TU activates the 2nd TU. Dec 29, 2010

Hi Stefano,

With Alt+Shift+down-arrow you will split the translation unit. Whenever you do it the second segment will get grayed out but as soon as you finished translating the first segment with the full stop and a space after the full stop "Tttttt uuuuu vvvv. " the second segment is no longer gray and you can translate it.

The space after the full stop of the translated first translation unit activates the second translation unit. There will be two segments in one pa

The space after the full stop of the translated first translation unit activates the second translation unit. There will be two segments in one paragraph and Across stores them that way.

Kind regards
