Hello Fellow translators:
I've been trying to get into Literature and book translation for ages. I got my second offer from a Turkish Publisher to translate a novel from Arabic to English. The novel is around 350 pages, and it uses delicate, hard to grasp terminology.

Hello Fellow translators:
I've been trying to get into Literature and book translation for ages. I got my second offer from a Turkish Publisher to translate a novel from Arabic to English. The novel is around 350 pages, and it uses delicate, hard to grasp terminology.
They asked me to propose a rate and a plan for the translation process. I really don't want to lose this opportunity, but it's still hard work, so it needs to be rewarding since it'll take almost 2.5 months to be done.
I asked for 5$ a page, which is way less than what I usually charge. But that's the lowest rate I can accept to make a living.
I don't want to lose another opportunity to get into this field, but I sensed that they think I overcharged them, so they might reconsider.
Is 5$ per page for literary translation too much? How much do you usually get for such work? If you have any tips for this field, please let me know.

Don’t go for less

I don’t work in literary translation, but this is a low rate. You can’t go lower than that. Also check the agency’s reviews before delving into the work, and ask for an advance payment, another one in the mid of the work and a final payment at the end. This will help protect you against scammers. It should be all in the agreement.
Good luck
