I've seen lots of time in Italian, people ask questions on Kudoz on terms that are taken from Texts, sometimes text that some of us is doing, and they don't specify it.

Today, for example, I saw a word that was taken form a test that I was doing some time ago. I'm wondering why this happens.

Is not a "rule" to say that you're asking help of a word from a text?

Does this happen also in other Language Kudoz Help?

Hi Benedetta Aug 10, 2011

Sure it happens in other pairs too. Sometimes people simply don't notice this option, sometimes they don't think it is important...

Sign of weakness Aug 10, 2011

If I understood well the first topic, and I believe I understand what you mean about people asking KudoZ questions based on tests.
Not that it happened to me before and had not many problems with tests, but I understand when people don't mention that the question is for a test that will determine whether they are accepted or not in a translation project.

I think that would be related with signs of weakness those translators are not interested in showing, mainly considering it

I think that would be related with signs of weakness those translators are not interested in showing, mainly considering it is a test, which is not a real project but rather has evaluation purposes.
Of course, as Natalie mentioned, it may not be so relevant the purpose of a KudoZ question and translator who are performing and test and are uncertain regarding a term may perfectly consider that information as not relevant in any way.

If it is a paid test, it is nothing but any other paid job Aug 11, 2011

In this case I don't see any reason to disclose the purpose of the translation, and if the translation is going to be published or not should be irrelevant.

As a matter of fact, tests often consist of text excerpts from projects that may still be under negotiation. It would be unwise and unprofessional to flag this text as a potential business lead.
