Hi all,
I am new to this forum, may be my this issue has been already discussed.
I see in the Kudoz rules that there is a maximum time a question may remain open, and this is obvious.
However I think there should be also a minimum time to keep the question open, before being closed without grading.

However I think there should be also a minimum time to keep the question open, before being closed without grading.
For example this morning I have seen a question posted, one answer arrived after 20 minutes, after 2 hours the question was closed without grading for "inadequate answers".
I do not think is in the proper Kudoz spirit to act in this way, this is not an on-line translation service, an asker should not be allowed to close a question without grading before a reasonable amount of time, as a minimum two days.
What do you think about?

Please just look at this KudoZ Rule.
It says:
Sufficient time should be allowed for responses to be made. It is recommended that askers allow at least twenty-four (24) hours to pass before closing a question.
You are right, in my opinion it is not right to act this way. As KudoZ moderator I always try to encourage people to keep a question opened longer - this is also best for themselves.

I agree that in the case you mention, the asker acted unreasonably. But I don't see any point in keeping a question open for a minimum time of two hours or whatever it stipulated, if you ask a question, someone answers it, and you think "Of course! That's so obvious! Why didn't I think of it myself?" And having got the idea, you may be able to check it from your own resources, or it may fit so well into the context that it is obvious that only that one answer is possible. In such a case, I acc... Between the suggestions above I can see an intention to 'formalize' the askers' behaviour introducing time limits etc. I believe this is a totally wrong approach.
The problem with asker's fair or unfair behaviour cannot be included in formal limits. I know askers who consistently close questions without grading 'for other reasons'. I know askers who spam systematically the KudoZ area with terms included in any general (even not specialized) dictionnaries. I know askers who systematically ... I know askers who systematically prefer obviously misleading answers (even with articulate 'disagrees').
What kind of rules or remedies would you suggest for?
The ProZ team systematically tries to introduce new rules and new features, and most of 'formalized' ones miss the target, unfortunately.
It is time to admit that translation business and translators themselves are rather far away from areas that may be readily formalized or limited.
And we can only hope that the black sheeps among the ProZ and KudoZ users will be only a marginal minority. ▲ Collapse

i had the chance to ask a few questions.
i don't see any reason to keep a question open if i found an answer, here or anywhere else.
i usually ask here only after i (almost) exhausted all my other sources, which means i already have a general idea about the answer, but not the exact translation i need.
many time, even the first answer gives me a new point of view and that might be enough.
i always(!!!) grade if the answer helped me, according ... See more i had the chance to ask a few questions.
