I would like to suggest two improvements.
1. Closing a question should be "allowed" after two answers are given or one agree was delifered to one answer. So the 24-hour limit should be abolished at least in rare language pairs. Even in English-Finnish you hardly ever get more than two answers, even if you wait till eternity. So we should not be bothered by sending us automatical mail about closing too early.

2. Reminders about unclosed questions should not be sent unless at least two answers or one agree have been given. Again the mechanical limit of one week (?) is not appropriate. If only one answer has been given, which is not satisfactury, it is embarracing to be forced to close the question and award points to the answerer. Should one write: Thanks for trying! (?). Than the stuff gets into the glossaries.

Then the asker has first option about entering a translation in the glossaries, so if you do find a solution from other sources you will perhaps earn the gratitude of others by entering it. That in itself will explain to the colleague(s) who answered why you did not award points. Entering a 'dash' - or a few dots ... instead of the translation is better than entering a wrong translation. A moderator can edit the glossary later if you find an answer, or want to correct typos, etc.
It is possible to close a question after only a few minutes - but it is irritating to people in other time zones who may be able to help or comment. On the other hand, answers and comments can be added after the question has been closed, although no KudoZ points will be earned, for the benefit of future users of the glossary.
