Translation should not be automized.
Dec 9, 2012
I've seen so-called machine translation which really sucks. I understand that automation has brought lots of convenience and benefits to the human beings, but it depends on where it is utilized. Automation lacks of thoughts, minds and flexibilities that human beings have.

"Thoughts, minds and flexibilities" are some things patent translation does not need
Dec 9, 2012
The fact is that machine translation also has a role to fill. 90% or more of the total volume of words to be translated in the world is composed of "mundane" and somewhat repetitive subjects as patents, manuals, pharmaceuticals, MSDS, etc. It was just a matter of time for MT to find its way into the field of patents.
In the other hand, it is clear that MT has no application in the "creative" communication fields (literature, poetry, marketing, etc.) which compose the remaining 10%.
