type I error is also called (alpha) error. It means the error of rejecting a true null hypothesis, i.e. declaring that a difference exists when it does not. The alpha value is significance level determined by the confidence interval taken from either one end (one-tailed) or two ends (two-tailed) of the normal distribution curve.

A probability computed considering differences in both directions is called a "two-tailed" probability. The name makes sense since both tails of the sampling distribution are considered.
