libertine-style

Setting aside the connotations the term has today, and any ideas of L'Histoire d'Ô, think back to the origins of libertinisme : http://www.doctissimo.fr/html/sexualite/dossiers/libertinage...
The term, in context, is describing a particular style, a laced/lace-up bustier typically, or other underwear for that matter : http://www.antiflirt.com/fr/lingerie/433-boxer-lace-devant.h...
I reckon sticking close to the original term would be quite appropriate here.

I mean, it can be quite libertine in style and not necessarily that sexy or sensual. Hey, Mary Poppins had lace up boots!

agree Jane Proctor (X) : yes!

neutral Daryo : the "zeste" bit feels a bit neglected, otherwise it would be yes!

thank you Karen
agree Jessica Noyes : or, "a touch racy"

yes, that could be a possibility too.
neutral Jane F : doesn't make the garment sound very appealing! I think this is from marketing material and needs something a bit more persuasive

I feel my suggestion keeps the same tone as the French, but yes there are plenty of possibilities.
disagree Jane Proctor (X) : Sorry, have to agree with Jane F. 'Racy' is a term my mum would use (and I'm no spring chicken!)

I don't think "libertin" is much more modern in French ...
agree emiledgar : Nothing wrong with racy. and @Jane P, disagree should be reserved to point out actual wrong translations, not for a difference of opinion on the modernity of the word, that is more of a "neutral"

Thank you - I know I don't currently live in the UK but I didn't think the use of 'racy' had changed that much either!
neutral B D Finch : I too find "racy" a bit Lord Peter Whimsey.

Leaving to the context to clarify what kind of "free-thinking" is involved..
Peer comment(s):

agree Jane Proctor (X) : at the risk of going overboard on my allocation of agrees.. already had my knuckles rapped for inappropriate use of a disagree above.. living dangerously today..

indulging in a hint of danger today? Thanks!
