slightly better | Apr 26, 2005 |
I've had this problem all day too, and it is back to normal now, but only on this particular page (i.e. topic/31706), and nowhere else that I've checked. Can't see any icons, mugshots, availability indicators etc. except as I say on this one page.
Hopefully useful info to help you solve the problem.

Email links to KudoZ pages now bring the page up in the correct encoding, but for all other pages, my encoding becomes Western (ISO-8859-1) instead of the Cyrillic (Windows 1251) to which my browser is set by default.

When I refresh the main proZ page, my default Cyrillic (Windows) encoding still switches automatically to Western European (ISO)...

No the problem with the browser encoding is still there. I view my page with encoding set to utf-8 because that is the encoding that is required to see Hindi characters. If I come back to the home page after moving to another page, for example a job posting page, the browsing setting is back to Western, and I see gibberish in place of Hindi and I once again have to set the browser encoding to utf-8.
It was not like this before.

Still not working properly, Henry. It is switching back to Western European (ISO) all the time. Frustrating and time-consuming... I have tried it from anotgher pc with Windows 2000 - same bad.

Pages continue to come up in Western (ISO-8859-1) every time I change page, though my browser default is Cyrillic (Windows-1251). I just submitted a support request about it, in case this thread is being neglected.

Same frustrating problem as Jack's.
And my default is Windows (Cyrillic).
And I wrote Henry about it as well citing this thread.

Had a reply to my support request from Jason saying it might be something to do with the cache of my browser, and suggesting some things I could try. Tried them, and a few others as well, nothing did any good. So I don't think it's the cache.

I doubt it's a cache as I have got the same problem when accessing ProZ from absolutely different pcs.

How about now? | Apr 28, 2005 |
It looks like this character set problem was resolved earlier for the KudoZ pages, but the rest of the site was still forcing the character set to ISO-8859-1. I have removed the forced character set from the rest of the site pages. Is the problem resolved now?
Best regards,

I have just tried it (7 am) and it seems to keep the proper encoding when switching pages.
Will check it further.
Thanks,
