I came across this article on a language blog I frequently read.

Some of this headlines are hysterical.

English can be a funny language...

Very funny! Jul 11, 2012

My guess is that #18 was intentional. At out university newspaper, we debated over a headline that ended up trashed (it was 1986...) Politicians skirt abortion issue.

#8 gave me pause - I fell for it!!

Very funny, thought-provoking, or just plain disturbing at times! Thank you for sharing, LingoTrust.
I actually started "collecting" these journalistic delicacies only a few weeks ago and posted them on Facebook (followed by my not so flattering comments); I'll be happy to share these but I will spare you my comments. : )

"United Way Rolls Out Annual Toilet Paper Drive"
/American River Messenger/

"...
farmers in Ohio are growing concerned about the dry conditions"
/The Washington Post/

"Victim in Miami face-eating attack is temporarily blind
Man is in stable condition,
faces more hospitalization"
/The Chicago Tribune/

Superb! Jul 12, 2012

Brilliant, Nicole and others. I've also been collecting daft/weird headlines for years.

One of my favourites:

BISHOPS TO ACT ON INDECENT SHOWS

I was living in New York at the time of the scandalous case of a private girls' school headmistress who shot dead her faithless lover, a famous medical specialist, the originator of the Scarsdale diet, in vogue at the time. To tell the tale, the New York Post's headline contained the most monosyllabic (or near monosyllabic) words I've yet seen combined:

POSH GIRLS' SCHOOL HEAD IN DIET DOC DEATH SHOCK

Keep collecting!
