Source text - English I’m staring at my clock radio. According to the big green digital numbers, it’s exactly 3:14 AM. I think it might be off by a minute or two, but that’s not really the point. The point is that I’m awake to know it’s somewhere in the neighborhood of 3:14 AM.
This is not by choice. Actually, it sort of is, I guess. I’m awake because I don’t want to fall asleep. And why I don’t want to fall asleep? It’s a fair question. I’d ask, if it were someone else.
The answer sounds stupid, even to me. If I’m honest, I have to admit I’m just being a baby about this. I don’t want to fall asleep because of the dreams I’ve been having. “Nightmares” is a better word. I don’t think even that really gets the point across, though. Is there a word for dreams that are worse than nightmares? There should be.
It’s been the same the last four nights, exactly the same. The people in it are the same, the places are the same, everything happens exactly the same way, in the same order, and the worst part is that it all feels so real. There isn’t any of that weird imagery that people always talk about–talking rabbits or losing your teeth while flying naked behind trains through long dark tunnels or whatever else. Everything that happens in this nightmare could come right out of the news. It could all really happen.

A resposta soa idiota, até pra mim. Pra ser sincera, eu tenho que admitir que estou sendo infantil quanto a isso. Eu não quero dormir por causa dos sonhos que tenho tido. "Pesadelos" é uma palavra melhor. Apesar de eu achar que nem essa palavra realmente transmite o sentido que eu quero. Existe uma palavra para sonhos que são piores que pesadelos? Deveria existir.
Foi o mesmo nas últimas quatro noites, exatamente o mesmo. As pessoas são as mesmas, os lugares são os mesmos, tudo acontece exatamente da mesma maneira, na mesma ordem, e a pior parte é que tudo parece tão real. Não há nada daquelas coisas estranhas de que as pessoas sempre falam - coelhos falantes, ou perder seus dentes enquanto voa pelada atrás de trens através de túneis longos e escuros, ou qualquer outra coisa que seja. Tudo que acontece nesse pesadelo poderia ter saído de alguma notícia. Tudo poderia realmente acontecer.

Source text - English Dr. Sara Alderson can deal with eighty-hour workweeks as a resident at Children’s Hospital. Dealing with crises in the Emergency Room or the OR is second nature to her. After Lizzie befriends a young boy on a trip to Washington, DC, and then wakes up in a panic that night because of a “bad funny dream,” Sara knows exactly what it means: her daughter is visiting the boy’s dreams. Complicating matters is the fact that the boy’s father is a Congressman, and he’s dreaming about a “scary man in a big black car” threatening his Daddy.
Unraveling a case of political corruption and blackmail would be hard enough for Sara under the best of circumstances. But when she has to view everything through the eyes of a toddler, it may be an impossible task.
