Source text - Polish Swe 60-lecie Stanisław Wejman uhonorował dziełem niezwykłym; cyklem sześćdziesięciu grafik powtarzających jeden motyw, motyw dyni, wykreślonej w tym samym wymiarze i technice. Wielokrotność Dyni, którą zaproponował Wejman nie wyklucza jednak oryginalności. Wręcz przeciwnie, podkreśla ją. Mamy więc 60 wyjątkowych, niepowtarzalnych dyń na sześćdziesięciolecie. Dlaczego jednak dynia?
Po Wejmanie , artyście świadomym, przekornym i ironicznym należało spodziewać się rozwiązań szczególnych. A więc nie wiązanka kwiatowa, o ustalonych zresztą tradycjach w sztuce lecz Dynia; obiekt mniej uroczysty i z niższej półki – śmieszny i pospolity, groteskowy w swym nieposkromionym wzroście, a w hierarchii martwych natur poza rankingiem. Ale to właśnie Dynia przez swa ruchliwość i nieprzewidywalność, usytuowana poza sferą mody i snobizmu, nie opatrzona i rzadko obecna w artystycznej ikonografii, otwiera się na świat przygody i niespodzianki. Na pewno nie jest naturą martwą, raczej „still life” – jak mówi Wejman , przyznając tym samym, że Dynia, którą rozmnożył, znaczy dla niego coś więcej niż tylko urodzinowy żart.
Jest obiektem żywym i różnorodnym. W ramach gatunku mnoży osobnicze odmiany.
W edycji Wejmana narzuca skojarzenia antropologiczne i kosmiczne. Są Dynie miękkie, pulsujące życiem i twarde jak skała. Dynie domowe i światowe. Trójwymiarowe i płaskie. Monochromatyczne i tryskające kolorem. Cała uroda świata zogniskowała się w Dyni.
Translation - English Stanisław Wejman has celebrated his 60th year with an unusual work; a cycle of sixty etchings repeating a single motif, that of a pumpkin, all created with the same dimensions and technique. This multiplicity of Pumpkins which Wejman offers us does not, however, preclude originality. On the contrary, it underlines it. So we have 60 exceptional, inimitable pumpkins for this sexagennial. And yet, why pumpkins?
From Wejman, an artist who is conscious, wilful and ironic, we might expect idiosyncratic works. Not a floral arrangement, then, which has its rooted traditions in art, but a Pumpkin; a less ceremonial, more unrefined object – amusing and lower-class, grotesque in its untamed growth, and off the scale in the “Still Life” hit parade. But it is precisely the Pumpkin, owing to its energy and unpredictability, situated without the realms of fashion and snobbishness, not overexploited and seldom present in artistic iconography, which opens itself to a world of adventure and surprise. “It is certainly not nature morte, but rather ‘still life’,” as Wejman says, acknowledging with this statement that the Pumpkin he has propagated means something more to him than purely a birthday joke.
It’s a vivid and multifarious object. Within the one species there are numerous individual varieties. Wejman’s cycle induces anthropological and cosmological associations. There are Pumpkins both soft – pulsing with life – and hard as rock. Pumpkins both home-loving and worldly. Three-dimensional and flat. Monochromatic and dripping with colour. The entire beauty of the world has been concentrated in the Pumpkin.
