Mi godo lo spettacolo? Mi godo lo spettacolo.
Mi sbuccio una banana, è la prima di oggi. Sono ossessionato dalla frutta.
È incredibile. Te lo giuro. Non ti sto tirando in giro. Ognuno ha le proprie ossessioni personali.
Sono fermo e mi sembra di essere invisibile. Dalla mia ho che sono seduto. Sono seduto su questo seggiolino verde, non troppo comodo, ma neanche così scomodo.
Ogni due minuti circa un fume di gente passa davanti ai miei occhi in modo scomposto, veloce e indipendente.
Ognuno segue la propria linea, e in questo fascio di linee pressoché infnito quasi nessuno si fa infuenzare dal men che minimo fattore esterno. Seguendo le linee, leggendo tra le linee, si nota che la linea che separa solitudine, fretta, arrivismo, indipendenza e menefreghismo è sottilissima.
È talmente sottile che quasi non la vedo.
Mi sembra di essere all'interno di un mondo immaginario: le persone non sembrano reali, si proteggono da tutto, quasi come se avessero un

preservativo gigante sull'intero corpo. Son così tante che è diffcile identifcarle, camminando perdono i propri connotati e il preservativo gigante non permette di far fuoruscire la propria personalità e di mostrare le proprie caratteristiche: non c'è più distinzione tra uomo e donna, tra bianco e nero, tra alto basso, ricco e povero. Camminando sembrano lasciare una scia colorata un po' scolorita dietro di sé. I colori si mischiano tra loro anche lì creando confusione. Una gran confusione. Un baccano di colori.
Guardando più attentamente mi rendo conto che la confusione invece non è così confusionaria, non è niente di campato in aria, anche perché l'aria non è così sana e nemmeno così abbondante in questo momento.
Guardo la banana.
Le do un morso.
Sento il rumore dei denti che si toccano tra di loro masticando.
Chiudo gli occhi per un breve momento.
Li riapro.
Tutt'un tratto non c'è più nessuno davanti a me.
Do un altro morso alla banana. Sono quasi a metà. Aspetto qualche secondo e ricomincia lo spettacolo.
Le persone ricominciano ad arrivare. Sono diverse ma non si nota. Io sono ancora qui, seduto, e nessuno mi vede. Ma io vedo loro.
Ancora.
Finisco la banana.
Ho una voglia di mangiare frutta che non penso sia normale. Mi son preso una pausa dalla vita. Forse è come decidere di essere in coma per un breve

periodo, un breve momento. la differenza sta nel fatto che se si è in coma veramente non si può decidere cosa fare, mentre io, adesso, posso sempre decidere cosa fare. Privilegiato.
Ma non voglio.
Linearmente le linee si rimescolano, i colori pure, i rumori anche. Il brusio di fondo è come il vento a Trieste, ormai non ci si fa più caso.
Alcuni rumori sono così dentro il nostro cervello, dentro la nostra routine, che solo il non-sentirli potrebbe farci distogliere lo sguardo dal nostro obiettivo, dalla nostra abitudinaria normalità, per guardarci intorno e capire cosa c'è di diverso dal solito. Cosa è successo. Dove. Perché.
Mentre la mischia prende forma io inflo la mano nel sacchetto di carta marroncino che tengo all'interno della tracolla che ho sulle cosce.
C'è della frutta all'interno. Accarezzo una delle clementine, sento la consistenza della sua buccia. Ne tiro fuori una.
Te l'ho detto, sono ossessionato dalla frutta.
Inizio a toglierle la buccia. Adoro sentire che alcuni piccoli pezzi arancioni e bianchi fniscono sotto l'unghia del mio indice e del mio pollice e che il succo della stessa buccia si impregna tra le impronte digitali delle mie dita. Cerco sempre di riuscire a togliere la pelle in un colpo solo, possibilmente creando una forma esistente. Oggi non posso essere fero di me: la forma sembra una via di mezzo tra pesce allungato e la forma dell'Africa. In realtà non somiglia proprio a nulla, ma io mi immagino un pesce allungato.
Mangio il primo spicchio di clementina. Il gusto si

appoggia sulle papille gustative della lingua, scivola tra i denti e sulle gengive. Appena chiudo la bocca faccio passare un labbro sopra l'altro e contemporaneamente mi annuso le dita della mano destra.
A quel punto alzo lo sguardo, lascio perdere la mia clementina per un secondo. Davanti a me nulla, ancora una volta.
Di fronte a me, dall'altro lato della stazione, vedo un gruppo di senzatetto che giocano a carte. Tra loro scorgo che uno ha tra le mani una mela, probabilmente non sua, ma trovata non so dove. Non so perché (e senza essere troppo realista) ma per solo un brevissimo attimo penso che sia fortunato anche lui ad avere un frutto tra le mani. Di colpo le carrozze della metropolitana arrivano in fretta e furia e cancellano dalla mia vista questa immagine. La metropolitana rallenta. Vedo che le carrozze sono colme e riesco a incrociare gli sguardi di moltissime persone. Non abbastanza a lungo per provare un'emozione degna ti tale nome. Metropolitana di Parigi.
La fermata è Saint-Lazare.
Sono le sei e mezza di sera, è l'ora di punta quindi ogni due minuti un treno passa. Si ferma, scarica passeggeri e carica passeggeri. Ci sono solo circa dieci secondi di tranquillità. Poi la gente inizia ad arrivare, si moltiplica mettendosi in coda per entrare nella carrozza che sta per arrivare. Poi il treno arriva, le porte si aprono, in un movimento automatico le persone che scendono si infltrano tra le persone che devono salire, tutto senza sforarsi mentalmente. Degli automi sembrerebbero.

Molti di loro sono occupati. Forse sono lobotomizzati, procedono come dei robot. Qualcuno con un libro, pochi. Qualcuno con delle cuffe giganti, quasi tutti. Attaccato a quelle cuffe enormi spesso uno smartphone, un mini-lettore dvd o un lettore mp3. Sembra quasi che ognuno cerchi di isolarsi ancora di più in un contesto che di sociale e socievole non ha nulla. Sono solo spostamenti.
Ancora una volta nessuno si accorge di me.
Forse sono invisibile. Letteralmente.
Forse sono solo un fantasma, un'anima che futtua nell'aria sporca e pesante di una delle stazioni più traffcate della metropolitana di Parigi.
Mangio un altro spicchio di clementina. Il sapore è troppo buono per far sì che io sia un fantasma. Mi annuso ancora una volta le dita. Anche questo è troppo concreto e piacevole perché sia una sensazione ultraterrena. Mentre mastico mi alzo la manica del braccio sinistro e mi gratto con violenza.
È uffciale.
Per esser vivo son vivo.
Sono invisibile ma vivo.
È un paradosso.
Sono tutti ossessionati dalla privacy, hanno paura degli stranieri, di essere scippati, di essere derubati, spintonati, strattonati, guardati e soprattutto interpellati. Nessuno vuole essere interpellato. C'è un allarme bomba ogni tre per due. Io potrei costruire un ordigno esplosivo e nessuno lo noterebbe o anche se lo notasse non avrebbe né il tempo né la voglia di pensarci.
Potrei avere un delfno vivo sulle mie cosce e

nessuno se ne renderebbe conto.
Potrei essere verde fosforescente e nessuno se ne renderebbe conto.
Potrei offrire e regalare dei soldi facendo lo stesso movimento delle persone che chiedono l'elemosina e ognuno continuerebbe per la sua strada senza neanche capire quello che succede.
La questione è un'altra però.
Anzi sono altre due.
La prima riguarda la morte. La morte celebrale. La morte dell'animo e dell'anima. La morte della diversità. Non è la morte nel senso letterario del termine.
Mangio un altro spicchio di clementina.
La sensazione è sempre la stessa. Sembra sempre la prima volta.
La morte del momento. La morte nel momento. Il momento muore in continuazione, basta pensare a tutti i cambiamenti che ci sconvolgono la vita, dal più piccolo ed insospettabile fno al più grande. Le rifessioni, le novità, i cambiamenti, le sicurezze che cadono, i segreti svelati, i dubbi mai tolti, i dubbi tolti. Tutto ciò è sicuro quanto inatteso, proprio come la morte, la “cosa” più sicura di tutte, ma forse anche quelle più inattesa. I momenti. Le sensazioni- Le emozioni. I minuti. I battiti di ciglia. Gli starnuti. Gli orgasmi. Gli odi. Le cadute. La tosse. I pensieri e le idee. L'amore. L'odio. Oddio. Tutto questo durante il trascorrer leggero della nostra linea temporale continua a morire e resuscitare proprio vicino a noi. Davanti. Dietro. A destra e sinistra.
Tutto questo è effmero ma riproducibile. Forse.
La mia clementina è chiaramente effmera, ma

splendida e squisita proprio per questo allo stesso tempo. E sono pure sicuro che non sarà mai riproducibile.
Mangio gli ultimi tre spicchi insieme. Ci metto un attimo di più a masticarli e a dir la verità avere tre spicchi in bocca contemporaneamente non ti fa veramente apprezzare una clementina, però è anche vero che il morso dato proprio ai quei tre spicchi ingurgitati allo stesso tempo non ha prezzo. Nessun prezzo sarebbe bastato.
O almeno se anche tu sei ossessionato dalla frutta quanto me. E non pensare che la mia ossessione sia più sana della tua che non riesci a dir di no ad una sigaretta. Siamo sulla stessa barca.
Ma la risposta non era questa, e quindi, se la risposta non era questa nemmeno la domanda era questa.
Ma quale?
Proprio quella qua scritta sopra. Non è quella.
La domanda vera è: chi è morto di noi? Io, in fssa su questa folla agitata e ordinata? O forse loro, guidati dalla routine e dalla paura?
Non lo so. Era una domanda diffcile, forse diffcilissima. Qualunque risposta venisse data non sarebbe in ogni caso esaustiva. È una domanda senza risposta.
Nel sacchetto di carta c'erano altre clementine. La mia mano destra le stava accarezzando, decidendo quale delle quattro al suo interno sarebbe stata quella buona.
Poi di colpo la risposta.
La mano che esce dal sacchetto.
Lo sguardo si alza piano piano.
La risposta. Non chiara. Ma diretta.

Eravamo vivi entrambi, io e loro. Eravamo tutti allo stesso livello. Forse addirittura eravamo morti entrambi. Sia io, sia loro.
Non so perché esattamente, ma l'unica risposta alla domanda che mi è venuta è che le cose sarebbero dovuta cambiare. Questo signifca far morire e risorgere il momento.
Quindi di colpo mi alzo, lascio cadere il sacchetto di clementine. La metro arriva dopo pochissimo, le persone iniziano a scendere e le altre ad agitarsi per entrare.
Improvvisamente qualcuno si accorge di me, probabilmente il mio sguardo non lascia trapelare le migliori intenzioni. L'impulso mi prende alla sprovvista, chiudo gli occhi e mi lancio a capoftto nella folla. Le linee lineari si rompono e tutto diventa un fascio scomposto di linee spezzate. Non avevo badato alle conseguenze, ma non era niente di pianifcato. L'unico obiettivo era di dare una botta al momento. L'unica cosa che sento sono le parti del corpo delle altre persone a cui vado contro.
Obiettivo raggiunto.
Qualcosa cambia, sta cambiando.
Qualcosa sarebbe cambiato. Qualcosa sarebbe morto a breve e poi risorto a breve.
Qualcuno sarebbe resuscitato.
Qualcun altro sarebbe morto.
Forse io.
Forse loro.
Forse nessuno.
Ma noi non abbiamo importanza in questo caso.
Il momento è morto, e di colpo è risorto.
Tutto il resto è solo contorno.

I’m right here.
It’s a strange feeling.

I’m right here, sat, no one sees me. I do see them.

I peel a banana, it’s the first one today. I'm obsessed with fruit.
It’s incredible. I swear. I'm not kidding, everyone has their own obsessions.
I’m right here and it seems to be invisible. I'm sat on this green plastic seat, not really comfortable, but not even that bad. Every two minutes a torrent of people walk past my eyes in a random, quick and independent way. Everyone follows their own line, in this almost endless beam of lines, hardly anyone is affected by any fact from the outside. Following the lines, reading between the lines, you can note that the line that separates loneliness, haste, careerism, independence and not caring, is really thin.
It’s so thin I can barely see it.
I feel like I’m in an imaginary world: people don’t seem real, they protect themselves from everything, like if they had a huge condom covering their whole bodies. They are so many, it’s difficult to identify them, they lose their connotations, and the condoms don’t let their personalities come out, to show their characteristics: there is no distinction between men and women, white and black, rich and poor, tall and short, they leave a bit of a discoloured yet coloured trail behind them. The colours blend creating confusion. A huge confusion. A racket of colors.
Observing more I realise the confusion is not that chaotic, it’s nothing up in the air, especially because the air is not really fresh and abundant at this moment.
I look at the banana.
I take a bite.
I can hear the noise of the teeth touching each other, chewing on it.
I close my eyes for a second.
I open them again.
Suddenly no one is in front of me anymore.
I take another bite. I’ve eaten almost half.
I wait a few seconds more and the show starts again.
The people are coming again. They are different from before but it doesn't show. I'm still here, sat, and no one sees me; but I see them.
Again.
I finish the banana.
I’ve a terrible desire to eat fruit. I don’t think it’s normal. I took a break from life. Maybe it’s like deciding to be in a coma for a short period, a short moment. The difference is that if you really are in a coma you cannot decide what to do, but me, now, I can always decide.
Privileged.
The lines blend again linearly, the colors too, the noises too. The background chatter is like wind in Trieste, it becomes not a big deal at all.
Some noises are just inside our brain, inside our routine, that only not hearing them could make us look away from the target, from our normal normality, to look around and understand what is different from usual. What happened. Where. Why.
Whilst the throng takes shape I stick my hand in the brown paper bag, in the messenger bag I have on my knees.
There is fruit inside. I stroke one of the clementines, I feel the consistence of the peel.
I take out one.
I told you, I’m obsessed with fruit.
I start to slide off the skin. I adore feeling some small orange and the white pieces end up under the nail of my index or my thumb, and the juice of the same skin impregnates between the fingerprints of my fingers. I always try to take off the peel in one stroke, possibly creating an existing shape. Today I can’t be proud of myself: the shape seems like something between an extended fish and the shape of Africa. To be honest it does not look like anything, I just imagine a long fish.
I eat the first wedge. The taste falls on the taste buds of the tongue, and it slides onto the teeth and the gums. Once I close my mouth I lick my lips and I smell my right hand.
I look up, I forget about the clementine for a second. In front of me nothing, once again.
On the other side of the station I can see a group of homeless people playing cards. I can see one of them with an apple, probably not his. I don’t know why (without being realist) but for a short moment I think he’s lucky to have a fruit between his hands.
Suddenly the coaches of the metro arrive and they erase that image from my view. The trains slow down. They are full and I manage to catch the eyes of lots of people. Not long enough to make me feel an emotion worthy of that name.
Paris Tube.
The metro stop is Saint-Lazare.
It’s 6:30 pm, it’s peak time and every two minutes a train passes by. It stops, it dumps and loads up the passengers. There are about 10 seconds of rare quiet, then the people start coming in, they multiply in a queue to get on the incoming train. The train arrives, the doors open, in an automatic movement the people get out, they infiltrate between the people who need to get on, without even brushing against each other, physically and mentally. They are automatons.
Most of them are busy. Maybe they are lobotomized, they proceed like robots. Some have books, just a few. Some have headphones, almost all of them. Smartphones, DVD or mp3 readers, they are stuck to these headphones. Everyone seems to want to self-isolate from a context that already has no social or sociable connotations. They are just movements.
Once again no one notices me.
Maybe I’m invisible. Literally.
Maybe I’m just a ghost, a floating soul in the busiest and dirtiest subway station of Paris.
I eat another wedge of clementine. It’s too tasty for me to be a ghost. I smell my fingers again, and even that is too concrete and pleasant to be a celestial being.
While I chew I pull up my sleeve and I scratch my arm hard.
It’s official.
I’m alive.
I’m invisible but alive.
It’s a paradox.
They are all obsessed with privacy, they are scared of foreigners, scared to be mugged, to be robbed, pushed, grabbed, looked at and especially approached. There is an alarm every minute. I could build an explosive device and no one would notice it and even if they did they wouldn't have the time nor the urge to think about it.
I could have a dolphin on my thighs and no one would see it. I could be glowing green and no one would see me.
I could give away money with the same movement people do with begging and everyone would just carry on without understanding what’s going on.
That’s another matter anyway.
Better, they are two.
The first regards the death, the death of the brain. The death of mind and soul. The death of diversity. It’s not a death in the literal meaning.
I eat another wedge of clementine.
The feeling is always the same. It always seems the first time.
The death of the moment. The death at the moment. The moment keeps dying, just think about all the changes that upset life, from the smallest and unsuspecting to the biggest. The reflections, the news, the changes, the falling securities, the exposed secrets, the endless doubts. This is all as sure as unexpected, like the death, the surest “thing” ever, but maybe the most unexpected. The moments, the sensations, the feelings, the minutes, the blinks. The sneezes. The orgasms. The odes. The falls. The cough. The thoughts and the ideas. Love. Hate. For God’s sake. During our timeline all of this keeps dying and resurrecting, right next to us. In front of us. Behind, on the right, on the left. This is all ephemeral but reproducible. Maybe.
My clementine is definitely ephemeral, but wonderful and exquisite at the same time, exactly for this reason. I’m sure it won’t be reproducible.
I eat the last three wedges all together. I take some time to chew them and to be honest when you have three wedges in your mouth it does not make you really enjoy the clementine, but it’s also true that the first bite to these three is priceless.
Only if you are as obsessed as me with fruit. And don’t think my obsession is better than yours, that you can’t even say no to a cigarette. We are in the same boat.
But the answer was not this, and so, if the answer was not this one, nor was the question.
So what?
Precisely the one written above. It’s not that.
The right question is: Who among us is dead? Me, flipping out about this orderly and agitated crowd? or maybe the crowd, driven by fear and routine?
I don’t know. It was a difficult question, maybe too difficult. Any answer would have been exhaustive. It’s a question without answer. In the paper bag there were more clementines. My right hand was stroking them, deciding which one would have been the right one.
Suddenly the answer.
The hand leaves the bag.
Slowly I look up.
The answer, not clear but straight.
We were both alive, me and them. We were all on the same level. Probably we were both dead. Me and them.
I don’t know exactly why but the only answer to the question was that things should have changed. This means pushing the moment to die and to rise again.
So all of a sudden I stand up, I drop the bag with the clementines. The train is coming and after a second people start getting off and the others start getting on.
Finally someone notices my presence, probably my look does not exude the best intentions. The impulse blindsides me, I close my eyes and I rush into the crowd. The linear lines break off and everything becomes a bundle of broken lines. I didn't think about the consequences but nothing was planned. The only goal was to shake things up. The only things I feel are the bodies of the other people I’m going against.
Objective achieved.
Something changes, it’s changing.
Something would have changed. Something would die and rise again.
Someone would have raised again.
Someone else would have died.
Maybe me.
Maybe them.
Maybe no one.
But not one of us has any importance at this point.
The moment died, and it raised again.
All the rest is just background.
