Expand my translation field

I would love to discuss with other Audiovuals translators about their experiences and talk about the leading softwares in the subtitling industry, in addition to voice-over since it seems a very promissing field in AVT. I would be happy to exchange thoughts and concepts and get in touch with specialists in this field.

I am looking to expand my skills by learning about the technologies involved. I am curious what the challenges are for AV translations compared to those of literature.

Do I need a certificate to do subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing?

I have little experience in the field or none at all. That is I do translation and I am a former trainer in educational audiovisual aids. To see the two fields in the same activity is a surprise for me. I would be happy and enlightened to be able to match my two main interests. Learning from those who work there in a daily basis

I'd like to discuss how to get clients, and if it's better to work as a freelance or relying on a agency, in this field

I believe that films and series are a very powerful because nowadays they are accessible to everyone, and all subjects can be followed in this format. One of the most important issues that we are having concerning other societies is the lack of knowledge and consequent fear. I love to be a key actor in fighting against the problems that ignorance is creating in our world, especially now with the migrant crisis that we are all affected by.

I specialised in Audiovisual Translation but have had very little opportunity to actually work on this industry, mainly because of lack of requests from clients. I would like to discuss how to approach/acquire new clients in this field, challenges of the industry itself and any other interesting topics.

Media Accessibility. I like pretty much any type of audiovisual translation, but the most satifying projects I have worked on all had to do with media accesibility for eg. blind, deaf or the hearing impaired. Why is it that audiodescription is not yet one of the major topics along with the classic subtitling, dubbing, etc.? I would love to do audiodescriptions on a regular basis but clients often don't even know it exists. Therefore they don't know they want it for their projects. :)
