A turn for the worse Aug 25, 2005

My first impression
is that of having changed a lot what makes things confusing and dropped worthful functions.

1. The whole layout is too complicated, too many things to observe when answering questions.

2. I cannot click on the name of an answerer and get to his profile. Annoying.

3. Too many kinds of glossary searches. Confusing.
The answers I get in 3 categories. Confusing.

I can´t even search only my own glossary. Annoying.

In general my first impression. Changes were made two rapidly , all at once. By adding too many functions it´s confusing for the user.

Proposal: Let the fundamental structure as easy a s possible and add the additional functions as(hidden)options.

A layout must be easy and clear and not overloaded with a lot of functions the users do not need normally.

The whole system has become more difficult to use. In particular it doesn't appear to recognise that I am a Platinum member and restricts me to 5 questions a day. The glossaries are difficult to use, when they used to be simple. Again, it doesn't recognise me as a Platinum member. Why pay for this membership when the system doesn't see it? Infuriating.

I'm still speaking :-) Aug 25, 2005

The new functions are very useful. Than you, Jason!

But there is something I missed in the old version and still miss in the new version of Kudoz:

1)I have constantly to switch from Cyrillic to West-European encoding when I read Russian and German texts, and that is very annoying. Isn’t it possible to use Unicode in this site?

2) If you do not refresh the Kudoz pressing the refresh button in your browser you do not notice that your colleague already answered the question. And after you add a comment to your answer and press the refresh button, your answer or comment may be sent many times and you cannot edit your message.
Isn’t it possible to refresh the content of Kudoz automatically, after an answer is added and block the sending of a message many times?

3) I cannot filter my speciality fields in Kudoz, there seems to be a bug in this function.

Best regards

Arthur

Hi Andre,

I see in your page that you have a partial platinum membership for the Jobs area. The restriction you are experiencing should be related to this: AFAIK, full platinum or partial but *community* platinum members don't have the same restriction.HTH

Urgent flag Aug 25, 2005

[quote]Hilary Davies wrote:

Is there any way to add an "urgent" flag for KudoZ questions?

Our moderator has (rightly) asked us not to do it - it messes up the glossary - but if we enter it in the body text, as requested, it doesn't show up in the list of terms and people don't see it.

I suggest that maybe the person who enters the glossary deletes the urgent...

peer review feature Aug 25, 2005

don't know if it's a bug or been removed: when an answer is closed, the "peer review" no longer appears... That was a good one!

Not for points Aug 26, 2005

So far the changes to the kudoz seem very good, except for the option "not for points". I don't understand the reasoning behind this and it is my opinion that this option should be removed.

Something that could be a valuable addition would be the option to have an answer option to questions called "not for grading", which the asker would then obviously not be able to grade. These are frequently used to further explain an answer already supplied by a peer, without trying to hijack hi

Nothing to add but my support. The "Not for Kudoz" option should be for answerers, not for askers.

no "close without grading" option Aug 26, 2005

I have noticed that there is no "close without grading" option in the new version. There is a link that says "Click here if you do not wish to select any of these answers" but (as I found out when I did this) it just declines the answers. I had to go back to the v3 design to close the question without grading it.

In general, I like the changes. I especially like the dashboard and the filter/flag options.

Modified design - please let me know if it is better or worse. Aug 26, 2005

I have released some design modifications. My intent is to emphasize the terms and make the advanced view slightly more compact. Please let me know whether or not I am going in the right direction. We'll continue making changes according to the views expressed here...
