Discussion

Edward Plaisance Jr Sep 17, 2014:
comments on "depathologizing" In commenting on this neologism, we need to start with the meaning of "pathologize"

transitive verb
: to view or characterize as medically or psychologically abnormal <natural hormonal shifts have been pathologized — Joyce C. Mills>

so..."depathologize" means "to no longer, or not to view or characterize as medically or psychologically abnormal"

"depathologizing" is quite different from آسیب زدایی which MoradSeif notes... "I believe اسیب زدایی means the diminishing of the negative impact after it is created. In other words, there is an impact at the moment, and you are supposed to remove it."

I hope this helps to clarify the matter.

negative impact avoidance/prevention

This is a rather strange item...it seems to be very popular in the Persian academic literature. I even found this site http://www.medlibcongress.sbmu.ac.ir/?siteid=441&pageid=2412...
I see here that it means "treatment"...sounds very strange to me in English.

I have spent several hours looking at numerous documents which I found in Google by searching such things as "organizational pathology human resources strategies"...strange thing was, most of the documents were translated by Iranian academics doing research in organizational management. (I think some of the recent questions in Proz were from these documents.)

The translations from Persian were reasonably good, but they did not translate آسیب very well...I saw the word "injury" or "damage" used several places...these do not sound right in English here. In the English context we could say "problem" or "negative impact" or something similar.

When it comes to آسیب زدایی in the context of organizational management, it really sounds strange to use "treatment" as if it were a medical condition or disease.

MoradSeif's comment reflects the problem with this term. I have discussed it with Iranian colleagues and they are not really sure what the whole thing means.

I have done some more digging, and I would suggest "rehabilitation" or "restoration" for آسیب زدایی in this context of organizational management. While I could not find any collocations with these words and organizational management, I think they are a good approximation of the Persian words in this context.

but doent come with although! excuse me!:-)

disagree Morad Seif : Hi dear frien, I believe اسیب زدایی means the diminishing of the negative impact after it is created. In other words, there is an impact at the moment, and you are supposed to remove it. Your answer is for the time that the impact is not yet formed

Depathologizing

Exaple: Can't we all figure out a way to depathologize our relationship with food and weight? I want you to stop stalking "overweight" women.

" de" is a prefix occurring in loanwords from Latin ( decide); also used to indicate privation, removal, and separation ( dehumidify), negation ( demerit; derange). Another exmaple is "deforestation" : In Persian: جنگل زدایی
Example sentence:

Can't we all figure out a way to depathologize our relationship with food and weight? I want you to stop stalking "overweight" women.

By using NEOLOGISM or COINAGE from the Latin or Greek stems you are be able to create new words.

For instance, I prefer you some words created by myself:

1. Purgeopath >>>> The stem "Purg" Means "To Clear" and as you Know, the stem "Path" means "Damage".
As a result, Purgeopath means "To remove any damages".

2. Fractopath >>>> The stem "Fract" Means "To Break" and, the stem "Path" means "Damage".
As a result, Fractopath means "To destroy or To Break any damages".

3. Cryptopath >>>> The stem "Crypt" Means "To Hide" and, the stem "Path" means "Damage".
As a result, Cryptopath means "To Hide damages OR Damages which are hidden".

Of course, the NEOLOGY NO. 1 is more near to your purpose.
