Actually you are right, I mean it should read "Estos regalos", plural form. And as to "pusieron en su corazón", I *guess* they meant "pusieron su cuerpo y alma en...." which would be "put their heart and soul into...".
And could it be a mistake for "poner su corazón en"?
Well, actually "pusieron en su corazón" does not make so much sense here, maybe the author meant "put their heart [and soul] into sth, meaning that they made a lot of effort to do something, I guess.
