Ciao, personalmente tradurrei come ti ho proposto, senza addentrarmi in una resa specifica dell'ordinamento italiano. Infatti:
La cessazione del vincolo coniugale viene definita: scioglimento del matrimonio, nel caso in cui fosse stato celebrato un matrimonio civile; cessazione degli effetti civili, qualora il matrimonio contratto fosse stato celebrato con rito concordatario e quindi avesse anche effetti religiosi.

Trattandosi, presumo, di matrimonio contratto negli States (non sappiamo se religioso o civile), utilizzerei "scioglimento" certa di non sbagliare :-)
