Spanish term

precursores de impacto

Spanish to English Other Agriculture insect life cycle modelling
Hello all. I cannot understand this phrase and, thus, cannot translate it. The full sentence is:
Los mapas e indicadores de riesgo que derivan del uso del ILCYM 4.0 se constituyen en “precursores de impacto”, que tienen el potencial de impactar positivamente en los agricultores y agricultoras.

The sentence is from a report on a Latin American agricultural development project in which the ILCYM 4.0 insect life cycle modelling software is applied as a tool for pest management. The ILCYM - an insect life-cycle modelling software - "facilitates the development of pest insect phenology models and provides analytical tools for studying pest population ecology". I just cannot get my head around "precursores de impacto" and what they mean by that.

Any help in understanding the idea and translating it into English would be much appreciated. The target audience is practitioners in agricultural development.

Thank you.

Discussion

philgoddard Apr 8, 2022:
I think the explanation is there in the text: the software provides information with "el potencial de impactar positivamente".

'Se constituyen en precursores de impacto que' is actually redundant - it's just introducing a piece of jargon that doesn't add anything to the sentence.

Sorry, my previous response had a typo.

Happy translating.

agree philgoddard : "I cannot understand this phrase and, thus, cannot translate it." Sometimes you don't need a full understanding.

Spanish term (edited): precursor de impacto

pioneering hard-hitter; hard-hitting forerunner

Los mapas e indicadores de riesgo que derivan ....se constituyen en “precursores de impacto”, que tienen el potencial de impactar positivamente en los agricultores y agricultoras : The maps and risk-indicators that derive from ... turn into / make their mark as/ 'pioneering hard-hitters' that have the potential of making a positive impact on all sorts of farmers ('including those of the fairer sex').

Otherwise, I have no recollection - from my journalistic stint in a UK-Belgian stable of business and agricultural publications - of the term of 'impact precursors' being used and apolgies to literal translators.
Example sentence:

playing with maps as a kind of precursor to adult mapping

Note from asker:
Thanks Adrian. I'm not totally convinced about impact precursors either, but.. frankly I'm not sure what the right translation is. The original is poorly written, to say the least.
