Not understanding how "branche" is used in this context. Any suggestions?

If a "moyen" is an "argument", then a "branche", clumsily and literally translated, is a "sub-argument".
So, in neutral language, "branches" are points.
Depending on stylistics, register and intended effect, you can use any of the translations proposed by Bridge, or any similar ones you can come up with.

: whoops! I have Navarre. That entry says "branch, limb, bough (d'arbre)". Hardly conclusive, Maître. OTOH 6 ghits on ["limb of grounds" legal argument] is good enough for me. I'd put "considering ..."
