Arabic to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Syria

Hello everyone,

This is the last line of a poem by Omar el-Farra, a Syrian poet. It appears in a short story I'm translating about the road from Sweida to Damascus, and the checkpoints encountered along the way. The narrator sees this line spray-painted onto a checkpoint:
ونقرأ أیضاً: (أنت بأمان. الجیش السوريّ هنا). أو: (نسهر على أمانكم). وهذا شعارٌ لم أفهمه: (سوریا هي رجال الصواریخ)! وعلى حاجزٍ صغیرٍ
ومتواضعٍ كان مكتوباً: (الوطن عرض البني آدم)! یا لله كم أحببتها هذه الأخیرة

I've had suggestions to translate عرض as "honour" or "responsibility" but I wanted to get the ProZ opinion too :)
