Discussion

B D Finch Jul 19, 2017:
@M.A.B. That's interesting, but doesn't change the point about the style and register.
M.A.B. Jul 19, 2017:
Well, the radial displacements of a star due to planet's pull are of meters per second or even smaller, so indeed at "human running speed"...
B D Finch Jul 19, 2017:
Register Note that the register of your source text is informal/flippant and might be directed at catching the attention of an audience of children. "To yank" is to pull abruptly and is obviously not how gravitational pull between a planet and a star would normally be described. The idea of a star travelling "at plus or minus human running speed" is also slightly off-beat. You will need to reproduce this register and style in your translation.
M.A.B. Jul 19, 2017:
This refers to the fact that when there is a planet by a star, the star is no longer 'static' because the planet's mass causes both the star and the planet to orbit the common center of mass. This center of mass is usually very close to the center of the star, but indeed the star very slightly "pulls" the planet.
