English to French Art/Literary Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs Brochure
Bonjour,

"Before finishing his secondaty school in Norway, he spent two years in Sunningdale, England where he completed his ***art O-level*** a year early. here he decided to study architecture."

Merci beaucoup.

Thank you, Tony.
Tony M Sep 25, 2015:
@ Asker It's not a Bac, the General Certificate of Education (GCE) O (= Ordinary) -level (now GCSE) is a an exam that used to be passed usually at age 16 (or sometimes, as here, a year earlier), whereas the A-levels (= Advanced) were taken at age 18, and more nearly correspond to a Bac.

So something like 'diplôme' etc. 'ordinaire', and I would say more like 'Beaux-Arts' — nowadays it may include all sorts of related subjects, but back in the days of GCEs (obsolete now for several years!) it mainly involved fine art: drawing, painting, art history, print-making, calligraphy, etc., maybe also with textiles, pottery, sculpture, etc.

Je pense au baccalauréat général mais m'interroge.

The O Level (Ordinary Level) is a subject-based qualification conferred as part of the General Certificate of Education. It was introduced as part of British educational reform in the 1950s alongside the more in-depth and academically rigorous A-level (official title of qualification: General Certificate of Education - Advanced Level) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Those three jurisdictions replaced O Levels gradually with General Certificate of Secondary Education and International General Certificate of Secondary Education exams over time. The Scottish equivalent was the O-grade (replaced by the Standard Grade). The O Level qualification is still awarded by CIE Cambridge International Examinations, the international counterpart of the British examination Board OCR (Oxford, Cambridge & Royal Society of Arts),[1] in select locations, instead of or alongside the International General Certificate of Secondary Education qualifications. Both CIE and OCR have Cambridge Assessment as their parent organization.[1] The Cambridge O Level has already been phased out, however, and is no longer available in certain administrative regions.[2]

Design is not mentioned either, but is now included (since 2015) as Art & Design.

Thank you, Kashew.

neutral Tony M : if this were a GCE O-level, it is clearly a long time before 2015. Back in the days when I did Art O-level, Design was more commonly included with Technology.
