Je comprends « instructions to act for » dans ce contexte (litige et poursuite judiciaire) comme le « mandat de représenter » (le défendeur) donné à un avocat :

: Exactement. "Mandat DE / à l'effet de / aux fins de / (...) représenter [X]" ; la préposition "DE représenter" vs. "POUR" (usage courant vs. juridique) est parfaitement correcte ici. Ou effectivement "mandat de / aux fins de / (...) représentation".

: il ne s'agit pas d'intervenir au nom de, mais plutôt d'agir pour. S'agissant d'un litige et d'une procédure juridique, il me semble qu'on parle d'un mandat de représentation.
