: question: isn't s'abstenir more definite than hold off? Hold off implies wait for now, but things could happen/going ahead at a later point in time/ ok! en attendant should be part of the answer line for clarity

: That would perhaps better translate 'refrain from', and as W/A says, it needs the time element as part of the answer in order to bring it closer to the s/t meaning.
