English term

beyond benefits based on relying on only systems

English to French Other Meteorology
Fires that are cool or too small relative to the spatial resolution of the satellite sensor may also be missed which can be a problem given that most fires in Africa result from a collection of numerous small fires.

But the capability to pull together difference systems as in AFIS maximizes the benefits of EO data beyond benefits based on relying on only systems.

dépassant les avantages obtenus en se basant sur un seul système

IMO, the source text is flawed and should read something like this :

"the capability to pull together diffeRENT systems as in AFIS maximizes the benefits of EO data beyond [the ] benefits based on relying on only [one system]."

in other words, the AFIS system combines the data from different satellites, so is much better than relying on a single system.

agree Claude B : I agree. I think that "only systems" was meant to be "single systems"

thanks!
neutral Daryo : yes and no - it applies TO EACH of the systems feeding AFIS so more accurately it would be "each of the systems used alone" - no?

"each of the systems used on its own" = "un seul système", innit? "Feeding AFIS" is implicit in the context...

English term (edited): beyond benefits based on relying on only separate/individual systems

au-delà de ce que peuvent offrir les systèmes utilisés séparément

But the capability to pull together difference systems as in AFIS maximises the benefits of EO data beyond benefits based on relying on only [component] systems used separately

the clue is

[1] in the sentence structure

But introduces some sort of opposition / contrast - as the first part is about

the capability to pull together ... data from difference systems

the contrast with

beyond benefits based on relying on only systems

must be in the fact that these "systems" ARE NOT "pulled together" IOW used each on its own

and

[2] in the fact that AFIS i.e. the Advanced Fire Information System is anyway by definition made only of "systems" for collecting EO (Earth observation) data [NASA MODIS, EUMETSAT MSG, GOES, NPP, etc], so saying

relying on only systems

is tautological nonsense as AFIS relies only on various "systems" [NASA MODIS, EUMETSAT MSG, GOES, NPP, etc] anyway

a classical straightforward case of synergy ("pull all the data together and you'll get more out of them"), but expressed in a confusing way.

disagree GILLES MEUNIER : separate/individual , ce n'est pas dans le texte donc votre traduction est dénaturée

Advanced Fire Information System
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Advanced Fire Information System (AFIS) provides information on current and historical fires detected by sensors on Earth observation satellites, e.g. NASA MODIS, EUMETSAT MSG, GOES, NPP, etc. covering multiple regions across the globe. The system provides monitoring of active fire on a web-based map and delivers near real-time alerts to registered users when a fire is detected within their specified areas of interest via email, SMS, XMPP, etc.

The system started as a research project at the CSIR Meraka Institute in collaboration with ESKOM in 2007. It was then extended to support many fire protection associations in South Africa.
